5 Easy Recipes for the School Holidays

Beat the boredom AND the hunger these School Holidays!

School Holidays is officially here – the perfect excuse to slow down, gather in the kitchen, and whip up something tasty together. We get it – cooking with kids isn’t just about keeping them entertained (though, that definitely helps) – it’s a chance to get them hands-on with food, learn a few new skills and maybe even tackle dinner, or lunch for the next day while you’re at it.

We've rounded up five easy, family-friendly recipes for you to try at home. The best part? They're simple to make, quick, super tasty and using some of our most versatile Angus Beef cuts, that you'll likely already have in your fridge or freezer.

1. Pan-fried Beef Tortillas with Mint Yoghurt

With a cook time of just 30 minutes, these Beef Tortillas make for an easy and tasty lunch or dinner.

Using none-other than our best-selling Premium Beef Mince, these tortillas are full of flavour and equally look the part. This recipe makes 12-15 tortillas, so there's plenty for leftovers, or a great option to feed the whole family for dinner!

Why the kids will love it? It's always fun when there's some assembling to do! Get them involved with mixing up the mint yoghurt, choosing any extra toppings and building the end creations!

2. Baked Gnocchi with Angus Beef Meatballs

Celebrity Chef Michael Van de Elzen built this recipe back in 2021, and it's still a family favourite that goes strong in the Carey household to date!

Whilst the Beef and Beetroot Meatballs are retired (*sad face*), we have our award-winning Angus Beef Meatballs which make for an excellent substitute. Or, if you have Beef Mince on hand, build your own by getting the kids involved and shaping into meatballs.

This one's sure to be loved by the whole family. With a prep time of just 15 minutes, and a cook time of 25 minutes - you'll have dinner ready and on the table in under an hour. What a win!

3. Sausage and Caramelised Onion Baked Potatoes

Because Sausages can be so much more than just tasty little morsels wrapped in bread! We recently made these Sausage and Caramelised Onion Baked Potatoes, and they got the double tick of approval from our families.

Super simple to make and done (and likely eaten too), in under an hour. A filling take on your classic Baked Potato - these guys are sure to be a hit with not only the kids, but the adults too.

The kids will love filling up the baked potatoes, and of course... adding on all that grated cheese on top.

4. Mince and Cheese Pies

Featuring our Green Meadows Premium Beef Mince, these pies are an absolute no-brainer when it comes to School Holiday dining.

Our special tip is to get the kids involved with making some fun shapes with the pastry. From rolling, filling, brushing the pastry and adding shapes - this one's made for little hands! If time is on your side, you can even make the pastry from scratch.

BONUS TIP: If you're wanting a shake up from Mince, we also have this delicious Steak and Onion Pie recipe which uses our Angus Diced Beef instead.

5. Double Angus Beef Brisket and Chuck Burgers

Because what's a School Holidays, without at least one delicious burger recipe thrown on the menu! Featuring our Angus Beef Brisket and Chuck Burger Patties, this recipe is the perfect Friday night dinner plan. Alter the recipe to just one patty for the little ones!

You cook the patties, and put the kids in charge of assembling them with all of their favourite toppings and sauces. We've gone classic with our toppings but customise yours to be as creative as you'd like.

BONUS TIP: If you're a cheese lover, substitute these burger patties with our Angus Beef and Cheese Burgers, or if you prefer to keep it simple - opt for our award-winning Angus Beef Burger Patties.

Our final tip.... make sure to make it fun. Pop on a playlist, or let the kids design some menus.
