How to Cook Fresh Sausages

From Grill to Plate, the Right Way

Fresh sausages are a breeze to cook once you’ve got the basics down – juicy, flavour-packed, and no fuss. From a casual BBQ to a cozy family dinner, here’s how to cook fresh sausages to perfection every time.

Know Your Sausage

Fresh sausages come loaded with flavour – and if you’ve tried our Angus Beef Sausages, you’ll understand what we mean. Unlike pre-cooked options, these are all about gentle heat and a little patience. No one likes a split sausage, so take it slow and you’ll be rewarded with the results.

Our Angus Beef Sausages are a plain, Angus beef tasting sausage that's gluten, dairy, soy, MSG-free and is bound with rice flour.

Tips & Cooking Methods

Cooking sausages requires minimal effort with maximum results. We recommend the best way to cook the sausages is on a lower heat.

Turn the pan down and the roll the sausages often. This will allow them to cook evenly right the way through. We always use a knife to cut through the sausage to ensure they are cooked before taking off the heat and indulging.

Tip: whilst this may be controversial to what you've been told or what you’ve read.... if you can help it, we recommend to not prick the outside of the sausages with the knife or fork. This will mean that all of the juices remain in the pan or BBQ and your sausages don’t shrivel up!

There’s a few different methods for cooking Sausages. Whilst our go-to is the BBQ during the warmer months, pan fry and oven bake / roasting are also great options for cooking to perfection.

Tasty Pairing Ideas

Sausages go with almost anything, so getting creative isn’t hard! Their versatility make for excellent freezer fillers – I mean, who doesn’t love a sausage for breakfast, lunch, a snack… or dinner!

For summer BBQs, serve them up with tangy potato salad, coleslaw, or grilled veggies. Or go with a classic Kiwi summer and slap one in between a piece of bread with your favourite sauce.

In the cooler months, you can’t go wrong with creamy mash, caramelised onions, and gravy. Or, in a hearty tray bake or pasta with your favourite herbs. A few of our favourites include this Tomato and Rosemary Braised Sausage recipe with creamy mash, Sausage and Cherry Tomato Pasta,  or keeping it simple with this tasty Sausage Sandwich.

Whether it’s BBQ season or a cozy night in, sausages are a go-to meat cut that never disappoints. With these simple steps, you’ll have perfectly cooked sausages that hit the mark every time. So grab your favourites, get cooking, and enjoy the delicious results all year round!
